My soul leaps within me as I look across the water and take in the vastness of the sea spreading out before me and the sky rising above the earth. The light flickers on the water and the waves knock on the gateway to the country in which I stand. Here at the edge of the Mediterranean Sea, thinkers gaze towards the purple mountains on the horizon. They walk along the tops of the cliffs, a solid ground, firm beneath them and a refuge from the raging waters below. The cliffs are an escape from the noise of the city, vibrant in culture, full of energy and yet living in darkness. Out at sea, asylum seekers look in, praying for freedom and deliverance from the horrors they left behind. Who will deliver them from the waters that swell up, like the enemy, consuming them? Here at the edge of two worlds, our spirits lift to someplace and someone greater than ourselves. God is the Rock and salvation each wanderer seeks, and like the cliffs, he is a place of deliverance for those out at sea and those in this land. "I lift my up my eyes to the mountains - where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. He will not let your foot slip." Psalm 121:1-3a
